if you want to do dim sum , my only rule is you gots to do it on sunday morning at red star ( unless of course you're unfortunate enough to be in cock city like melbourne where the dim sum is mediocre and cost a bomb then you're allowed to have it elsewhere to satisfy your dim-sum-fix ) . i've been wanting to go for dim sums since i landed quite crappily ( on jetstar ) on the island . it was oh-so worth it to stand in a queue for 45 minutes just to have the triumvirate of dim sums - har gow , chee cheong fun + egg tarts .

i also really enjoy that at red star it's a complete family affair . you've got the young todds that are shoving siew mai into their tiny mouths and opposite them you've got aging grandpas sitting in their wheelchairs with liver spots on their bald heads . it's complete chaos and fracas from table to table but how can anyone NOT bond over pig trotters stewed in vinegar or paper wrapped chicken ?

i know the whole idea behind having dim sum is that it should be a leisurely affair - you settle down , wait patiently for your card and then talk about life and the little bits in between over xiang pian or ju hua cha . my family , we kick it new school - we hunt the dim sum . we scrambled to grab the card from the poor waiter and set off to hunt carrot cake / char siew pao / porridge / barbequed meats . we are the antithesis to all traditional dim-summers out there . :)
